I’ve gone through endless cycles of blocking and unblocking Youtube, Reddit, and other social medias with apps like Cold Turkey, Screentime, etc.

I find myself unblocking mostly because they contain valuable information and resources at times e.g. lectures on YouTube or niche discussions on random subreddits.

I have finally figured out a solution, and I’m surprised it’s taken me this long.

Use BlockIt, it’s a paid app (~$5 USD per year!) and selectively hides certain homepages of common social media apps. It works across MacOS, iOS and iPadOS, and so far has been super useful in holding me back from getting sucked into doomscrolling.

This way you can still access sites when you need to, but you never get tempted/distracted by their algorithms.
