Why I love full body random
Full body random (FBR) is the best workout split (imo) for a few reasons:
Pros:
There’s virtually zero friction to starting your workout. You choose whatever exercises you feel like doing at that particular occasion depending on factors like fatigue, time, weather, mood. This makes FBR super easy to recommend to beginners and shows them that you don’t need to figure a workout routine to get started at the gym.
You can switch locations easily and not worry about equipment change or availability. When moving between Traralgon and Melbourne it was easy to switch between doing home workouts, and also switching between different gyms and different equipment.
You can do novel exercises without needing to adhere to the categories of different splits. Do forearms belong in push or pull? Does a farmer’s carry train upper or lower? Full body random enables me to think holistically and complete exercises like static stretches which wouldn’t be prescribed in regular gym programs.
Built-in redundancy. You can easily skip days without worrying about aligning certain days to certain workouts. Also FBR ensures you never miss a certain body part because everything gets trained regularly.
Socially, it’s very easy to join other people and do their exercises. It’s also super fun doing niche exercises with friends
Cons:
Lowkey people don’t take you as seriously when you say your split is full body random. This is fine though as long as you’re content with your own progress and ability.
Analysis paralysis. If you have trouble making decisions and tend to procrastinate then potentially this may not be the best split for you.
Let me know what you think in the comments! What splits do you guys run and what do you think is best?
i’m committing to write a blog post every day for this month, please consider subscribing and sharing if you enjoyed! it’ll help motivate me a lot lol thank you :))
